The University of Chile and UN Women hosted the forum “Caring from the Territories: Intersectional and Intersectoral Voices and Experiences,” part of the series “Care that Transforms: Toward a Just, Shared, and Inclusive Economy.” The event gathered academics, activists, and civil society representatives to discuss the need for intersectional approaches to care policies in Chile, recognizing care as a social right and addressing the realities of rural, Indigenous, migrant, and climate-affected communities.
Carmen Andrade, Director of Gender Equality at the University of Chile, emphasized that Chile still lacks an integrated care system, noting that unpaid care remains largely privatized and feminized. UN Women presented its policy brief “The Intersectionality of Care,” calling for inclusive, culturally relevant policies. The panel highlighted that integrating intersectional and intersectoral perspectives is essential for building a National Care System that reflects Chile’s social and cultural diversity and ensures equality for all.
