The national domestic violence hotline in Fiji has experienced a drastic increase since the beginning of the lockdown and up to this point: in February, the state’s helpline received 87 calls, which increased to 187 in March, and surged to over 500 over the course of April. Advocates have called for police to be vigilant and to understand their important role in responding to domestic violence calls and protecting survivors during the lockdown.
