In the first two weeks of lockdown, calls to domestic violence hotlines in Spain increased by 12.4% and online consultations of the helpline’s website increased by 270%, according to Spain’s Equality Ministry. The government has ensured that all domestic violence services would remain open, and has launched campaign encouraging women to call the hotline, including posters stating “We’re here for you” and the helpline’s number 016. In addition, the government has announced that victims of domestic violence and their children will be housed in hotels if centers are at capacity.
