The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched the new Regional Platform for the Empowerment of Rural Women, a digital tool seeking to strengthen the capacities, leadership, and the full enjoyment of the rights of rural, Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and young women across Latin America and the Caribbean. The platform has been designed with gender-transformative and intersectional approaches. It aims to support the design and implementation of inclusive, evidence-based public policies that address the structural challenges faced by women in rural territories.
The initiative is part of FAO’s broader efforts to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while recognizing that the empowerment of rural women is essential to achieving food security and addressing climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean.
