South Africa: New Report Says Violence Against Women and Children Must Be Tackled Together

The recently released Child Gauge Report by the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund finds that the issues of violence against women and violence against children are deeply interconnected in the same households in South Africa. The report highlights that about one in four adult women has experienced physical or sexual intimate-partner violence and around 42% of children have suffered maltreatment by an adult caregiver. It calls for integrating policies, trauma-informed services, early-childhood interventions and community-engagement to “break the intergenerational cycle of harm.”
