United States: Florida court aims to eliminate abortion access for youth lacking parental support

Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeals has moved to block abortion access for youth who cannot obtain parental consent. The court has ruled that youth—some of whom fear physical abuse, family alienation, or loss of housing given pregnancy—can no longer obtain judicial waivers in lieu of parental approval for abortion access. Instead, they must get written, notarized permission from a parent or guardian. The decision further complicates access to reproductive care in a state with already restrictive abortion laws.
