The United Nations Human Rights Council recently released a draft resolution on “adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living.”

The draft resolution commended the work of the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing for incorporating a gender perspective into his work. He was also praised for reporting on women and adequate housing.

The draft resolution went on to call attention to the needs of women who have experienced violence, live in poverty and female heads of household. The draft resolution urged states to remove discriminatory obstacles prohibiting these women from obtaining access to shelter and affordable housing.
