A new study that examined the health problems suffered by trafficked women found that their symptoms were similar to that of torture victims. Researchers studied over two hundred women from several countries and found patterns of severe physical and psychological trauma. Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety, all of which are problems documented among torture survivors, were found in many of the women. The report also noted that a vast majority of the women were single mothers and that many were lured into the business with false promises of employment. The report was published by the London School Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Compiled from: "Trafficked Women's Symptoms Akin to Torture Victims'," London (Reuters), CNN, www.cnn.com, 28 June 2006.
