Most domestic violence victims in Victoria, Australia have experienced some form of cyber violence, according to the Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria (DVRCV). Police in Victoria have also noticed an increase in the number of cyber stalking and harassment complaints lodged by victims. The DVRCV says that the internet provides perpetrators with anonymity and ease of access to victims, including through GPS tracking and monitoring of social media. The organization also points out that cases of cyber-violence, such as harassment and stalking, are not always investigated or taken seriously when reported, leaving women feeling vulnerable and powerless.
