International Covenant on Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)

Like the ICCPR, the International Covenant on Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), upholds many basic rights that implicitly obligate states to protect women from violence.[1] For instance, the ICESCR upholds the right to the highest standard of physical and mental health.[2] Among other rights, this right is implicated in many violence against women cases. Therefore, States that are parties to these mechanisms have an implicit obligation to protect women from violence as part of their obligations.
