Large demonstrations have been held in cities across Kenya, with participants condemning widespread sexual violence against women and calling for the government to declare an emergency and create a crime of femicide. A national survey in 2022 suggests that one-third of women in Kenya are victims of violence, and the group Amnesty International has documented over 500 cases of femicide in Kenya beween 2016 and 2023.
