Kurdistan: Community action shuts down telegram channel harassing women
Tuesday, March 4, 2025 8:10 AM

A Telegram channel that shared unauthorized photos of local women without hijabs, paired with abusive comments, was recently shut down following persistent community outcry. Despite notifying the police, authorities did not take decisive action, leading to significant emotional distress among the victims, with some needing medical attention. The incident has led to tighter family restrictions on women’s movements and a pervasive sense of fear within the community. The channel was ultimately removed through collective reporting efforts, but those responsible remain at large, and law enforcement’s slow response has drawn criticism.
