Moldova: Report Shows Trafficking Victims Face Barriers to Relief

The Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) has released its second report on human trafficking in the Republic of Moldova. According to the report, the country has increased sanctions for human trafficking, facilitated training of various professionals, initiated awareness campaigns, and instituted a child traffickig helpline.

However, the report notes that trafficking victims often lack access to relief. GRETA urges the Republic of Moldova to further strengthen its efforts in providing assistance and protection to trafficking victims by guaranteeing access to healthcare and other public services, facilitating access to compensation, and providing protection to victims and witnesses of human trafficking before, during, and after criminal proceedings.
