Peru: Women Are Hardest-Hit by the COVID-19 Pandemic

Women in Peru bear the brunt of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, notably disproportionate unemployment and lowered wages. The spread of the disease caused millions of women to lose their source of income as many women stayed home to care for themselves or sick family members. Regulations in effort to curb the pandemic also disproportionately affected industries with high employment of women. Women are thus accepting lower pay and unemployment rates are doubled compared to their male counterparts.
