In a speech on ending violence against women and children, Maha Damaj, UNICEF Representative to Moldova, highlighted the deep connection between violence against women and violence against children, emphasizing how both stem from the same power imbalances and societal norms. She stressed that children who witness domestic violence are more likely to experience or perpetrate violence later in life, making it crucial to address these issues together. Tackling gender-based violence is not only about protecting women but also about breaking cycles of abuse that affect entire families and future generations. UNICEF calls for comprehensive measures, including legal reforms, education, and community engagement, to challenge harmful power dynamics and ensure lasting change.
