On November 4, 2019, UN Women held its first Convention of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. At this event, 150 representatives of governments, the private sector, and civil society organizations convened to discuss strategies for ending violence against women through over 100 projects across the globe. In her opening remarks, the Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, stated that in addition to the existing measures, more action needs to be taken on eliminating violence and discrimination against women. She also stressed the importance of including men in the conversation and working toward achieving equality in national leadership. The UN Trust Fund has spent years working toward ending violence against women, and hopes that this Convention and the UNiTE by 2030 campaign are able to identify solutions to this global issue.
