As a part of “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence,” which began on November 25th and runs through Human Rights Day on December 10th, the United Nations has called for the international community to “Orange the World.” According to the UN, the color is symbolic of “a brighter future without violence.” Already this year, major international landmarks in the U.S., Jordan, France, Brazil and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been lit orange to show a commitment to ending violence against women. UN Women is encouraging organizations around the world to organize their own “Orange Events.”
