Yemen: US aid cuts and conflict designation deepen humanitarian catastrophe
Tuesday, April 29, 2025 8:15 PM
The U.S. government suddenly ended its foreign humanitarian aid to Yemen, causing devastating consequences for all, but especially marginalized communities, including women and girls. Since Yemen already has systematic violence against women issues, high rates of child marriage, and excessive maternal mortality numbers. The shutdown of aid is having a direct impact on safe spaces, health facilities, and reproductive clinics, further exacerbating these existing issues. As a result, the closing of such spaces puts essential services like shelters, psychological aid, and legal protections increasing out of reach, further exacerbating the vulnerability of women and girls amidst the ongoing conflict.
