Belarusian Government Creates Human Rights Council

On 27 January 2009 the Office of the President of Belarus declared plans to create a human rights council.  Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reports that the administration asked for oversight and support from a nongovernmental organization (NGO). The Belarusian Helsinki Committee, an NGO led by Aleg Hulak, will help the administration establish the human rights council.
