Civic Campaign in Kyrgyzstan to Help Human Rights Advocates in Custody

Aziza Abdirasulova and Tolekan Ismailova have started a civic campaign, “Protecting Freedom, Dignity, and Personal Immunity in Kyrgyzstan,” in response to poor conditions that human rights advocates have to endure in Kyrgyzstan. Many human rights workers, especially women, have been targeted by the National Security Agency and other law-enforcing agencies, and many have been taken into custody. Abdirasulova and Ismailova are appealing to the president of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kurmanbek Bakiev, to take further measures to protect the constitutional rights and freedoms of his citizens.
