Combating Domestic Violence: Ukrainian and International Experience

Although domestic violence has been a criminal offense in Ukraine since 2002, there are serious problems and obstacles regarding protection of the human rights domestic violence victims, including the implementation of international mechanism provisions that are part of Ukrainian legislation. 

This publication summarizes the basic achievements and results of the activities of the West Ukrainian Centre “Women’s Perspectives” in the field of combating violence in the family and protection of victims’ rights during 2006-2007. In particular, it provides study and research on victims’ experiences with law enforcement and governmental institutions.  Media monitoring, research on prevalence of domestic violence, as well as legislative analysis are also included.
