Concluding Observations from the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination: Russian Federation

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) has issued its concluding observations after holding its 73rd session from 28 July to 15 August, 2008. In its observations addressed to the Russian Federation, CERD made a series of recommendations that would help to improve the position of racial and ethnic minorities in the Russian Federation. These include: inclusion of a formal definition of racial discrimination in legislation, prosecution of public officials guilty of racially based arrests and seizures, implementation of more programs targeting the economic and social development of indigenous peoples, action to halt racially motivated hate-speech, full integration of ethnic minorities into the education system, and more.
