Tuesday, February 13, 2007 2:12 PM

The United Nations has selected the theme for International Women's Day 2007:  Ending Impunity for Violence Against Women and Girls.

The UN began observing IWD in 1975. The General Assembly wished to acknowlege the contribution of women to international peace and to recognize that the full observance of human rights must include the equality of women.  Traditionally, the Secretary-General of the UN proclaims a message on this day.
