Help for Health Care Providers in Recognizing Domestic Violence

New research indicates that women assaulted by intimate partners typically experience different types of facial injuries than those who suffer injuries from other causes, such as attacks by unknown assailants. Attacks from intimate partners are more likely to result in breaks around the cheekbone and eye, and brain injuries. This information will assist health care providers in identifying likely victims of domestic violence, making it easier for them to recognize when a referral or intervention is needed.
