Monday, June 29, 2009 10:46 AM

The Lawyers Collective Women’s Rights Initiative (LCWRI) has been creating annual monitoring and evaluation reports on the actual implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA) (2005) since it was enacted on October 26th, 2006. The LCWRI’s second report in the series is titled Staying Alive – Second Monitoring and Evaluation Report 2008 on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005. LCWRI believes that continuous monitoring and evaluation is necessary in order to ensure that the promise of the act is carried out.

The Second Monitoring and Evaluation Report has several objectives: to track the infrastructure the state governments have created in order to implement the PWDVA; to collate stakeholders' experiences in using this infrastructure to bring relief to victims of domestic violence; and to draw temporary conclusions on the influence of this infrastructure on the implementation of the act.
