The theme of their work is post-conflict gender-based violence. The availability of guns, combined with economic prospects and a reduction in basic services, contribute to the dynamics of gender-based violence when conflict ends. Women also suffer ‘indirect’ negative impacts, including damage to health, education and other social services.

Thanks to the sharing of stories and testimonies of women and girls last year, the publication 'Survivors - Women Affected by Gun Violence Speak Out' continues to be used as an advocacy resource. It is a valuable tool in media work and highlights the links between violence against women and small arms.

Knowing that it is such a useful resource, IANSA is now working on a 'Survivors Project' to include more of people’s stories and experiences, to make them available in a new format for use in wider activism and work to end violence against women. If you have been personally affected by gun violence or know a woman or girl who is willing to share their story with others, please let IANSA know.

The organization will accept testimonies in any language and women can remain anonymous if they do not wish to be named. Photographs and drawings are also welcome.

Please send contributions by Friday 8 June 2007. The testimonies will be translated into English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
