Japan Revises Domestic Violence Law to Address Threats

Domestic violence laws in Japan were recently revised to allow courts to issue an order for protection even if no physical attack has taken place. The law was updated after an investigation pointed to a problem with separated people suffering domestic violence via telephone calls or e-mails. The new law, which covers the victim, their children, parents and supporters, allows for the issuance of an order of protection in cases where there have been just threats of violence.
