In Kazakhstan on 11 December 2008, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), OSCE’s Center in Astana, and an international non-governmental organization, Equitas, sponsored a round-table meeting on ways to improve women’s rights monitoring and reporting in the country. The meeting covered issues raised by the United Nation (UN)’s Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, including increasing women’s representation in politics, addressing violence against women, combating trafficking of girls and women, and rural women’s issues.
