Lebanon’s Ministerial Statement Speaks to Legal Reform on Violence Against Women
Friday, August 15, 2008 3:13 PM

Women’s advocates in Lebanon are praising the recent Ministerial Statement released by the government for its inclusion of language on ending violence against women and working towards legislation to secure women’s rights.  It is only the second time women have been mentioned in such a statement, and the first time that reference has been made to legal reform on violence against women.  The organization KAFA (enough) Violence and Exploitation has worked to persuade cabinet members to uphold the provisions of international agreements Lebanon has ratified, including the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
