Health workers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia are being trained on identifying domestic violence issues as part of the work of the Committee of Social Protection. This project is a collaboration between the Ministries of Health, Social Affairs, Education and Justice, as well as the police. There is no data currently available about the number of domestic violence cases “because of an absence of proper documentation and because most victims, such as wives and daughters, are too afraid to report abuse,” according to Dr. Nawaf Al-Herthy, chair of the committee’s Jeddah branch and director of the Jeddah Psychiatric Hospital.
