The Ukrainian Parliament met in March to discuss changes and implementation of the draft law for family violence legislation. Lawmakers, activists and advocates met to discuss proposed changes to the law, initially passed in February 2007.

The focus of the discussion included changes to the provision for alcohol abuse, provisions on financial punishment for perpetrators and an inclusion of "correctional work" as a possibility for perpetrators. The roundtable also had the important success of removing a victim provocation aspect of the draft law.

Participants also discussed the inclusion of possible new amendments. The possible changes concerned alcohol abuse, protective orders and financial resources necessary for implementation, especially with concern to shelters.
