The Nordic Baltic Pilot Project and Network, coordinated by the European Women’s Lobby (EWL), recently issued a report that laid out plans for preventing trafficking of women and girls.  The Nordic Baltic Project is a regional approach that is victim-focused and specifically addresses trafficking of women for sexual exploitation.  Countries involved include: Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland and Estonia.  The Nordic Baltic Project also cooperates with NGOs in an effort to advance a comprehensive response to the trafficking of women for sexual purposes.  The publication identifies six main objectives that the Project hopes to accomplish:

1) identify women victims of trafficking

2) residence status and reflection delay

3) shelter and specialized services

4) referrals and safe returns

5) victim protection and data protection

6) compensation and financial assistance
