The Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a report aimed at improving the situation of women in the South Caucasus.  Rapporteur Vera Oskina (Russia EDG) is concerned about the low numbers of women participating in political life in the South Caucasus:  4.6% in Armenia, 10.5 % in Azerbaijan and 9.4% in Georgia.  She called for an increase in the minimum number of female representatives.

In other fields, the Committee  recommended narrowing the gap in salaries between men and women, and called for measures to reduce the number of abortions and pregnancies among girls.
