The Guardian reported that the London Metropolitan Police are offering a $40,000 reward for information that would help uncover cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Persons conducting or assisting in FGM can receive a punishment of up to 14 years in jail, however to date no one has been prosecuted. According to a recent estimate, 66,000 cases of FGM take place in Britain annually, mostly among immigrant communities.
