Too Young to Wed: Child Brides
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 1:09 PM

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has compiled firsthand stories and images of child brides from around the world. According to ICRW, over 51 million girls under the age of eighteen years are married (2003). Child marriages often result in physical and emotional damage for young girls, increasing their susceptibility to health and reproductive problems and domestic violence, as well as effectively ending educational opportunities. In order to better represent the voices of the girls who have endured such hardship, ICRW has produced a photoessay.
