UNDP and Women's Union Conduct Training on Gender Violence in Turkmenistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan teamed up in May of 2008 to deliver a training session on Ethics and Psychology of Family Life. The training, given to members of Women’s Union Resource Centers and five school teachers, prepared women to train others to be a resource for victims of domestic violence.  Participants learned about concepts of gender violence and its effects, Turkmenistan’s legal acts on women’s rights, and how to conduct trainings interactively. The training also aimed to create an awareness about violence against women that could be extended to the general public and thus address some of the deep-seated gender biases that exist in the society.
