The United States Government Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons has provided the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funding to maintain and expand its Global Human Trafficking Database through 2011. The database systematically records quantitative and qualitative data on registered trafficking victims from around the world, including socioeconomic profiles of victims and traffickers, information on trafficking routes, and information on the nature of assistance provided to victims.
The database is used by counter-trafficking assistance programs and by researchers exploring the trends and processes of trafficking. IOM intends to use information from the database to publish a series of narrative reports on contemporary and regional issues in human trafficking. The reports will be part of the IOM Global Human Trafficking Thematic Research Series.
