A new Violence Awareness Index in Argentina shows that only 27% of people in Argentina have high awareness of gender-based violence, and two-thirds of them are women. Three in ten women do not initially recognize having experienced violence, but 87% identify it when concrete examples are listed, revealing a major recognition gap.
While 75% say they would act in a hypothetical situation, real cases show that 97% take some supportive action. Most victims seek help from friends or family rather than public services, demonstrating mistrust of the police or public officials. Lastly, the index results indicate that cultural barriers persist, with 30% believing couple violence should remain private.
