In a first for the country, Brazil’s high court has allowed someone to identify as gender-neutral on official documents. In May, the Superior Court of Justice allowed a petitioner to use a gender-neutral identity on their birth certificate. The person had originally requested to be described as male after hormone treatment but later appealed to the court to use non-binary identification. The Court’s panel was unanimous in its decision.
