In Colombia, the program "Somos Economías para la Vida" (We are Economies for the Life) studied the characteristics of 480 organizations, initiatives, and collectives in 28 strategic municipalities, intending to identify opportunities to strengthen popular economies in the country.
Popular economies are related to the musical arts, traditional knowledge systems, the environment, scenic arts, cultural tourism, and ancestral knowledge. Women in Colombia are leading the popular economies of the country, with over 5,817 women involved. The program also identified 4,505 Afrodescendants involved, including 3,584 Indigenous peoples, and 195 LGBTIQ+ members.
