On August 5, 2025, a mother and her daughter were gravely harmed when attacked by the daughter’s ex-boyfriend. The daughter, Krisney Albano García Medina, was stabbed over 20 times, while her mother, who rushed to her defense, was stabbed nine times. Krisney’s underage child was present during the attack, although he suffered no physical injury. Authorities activated several gender-based violence protocols and opened multiple phone lines for citizens to report femicide cases. Police officers are still searching for the perpetrator, who fled the scene.
Commenting on this recent violence incident, Fundación Mujer y Futuro informed that there have been over 10 femicide cases throughout the year in the Santander region, in addition to violent homicides and attacks on women. The NGO has called upon citizens and authorities to protect victims and promote the reporting of cases.
