Colombia: Nine out of Ten Women Have Experienced Phone Harassment
Sunday, December 7, 2025 9:45 AM

A new study by Truecaller reveals that nine out of ten women in Colombia have experienced phone harassment, including unwanted calls or text messages containing sexual or inappropriate content. The report describes the issue as a persistent form of digital violence, noting that 64% of the calls come from unknown numbers, which makes reporting offenders difficult. Nearly one in four women say they receive these incidents multiple times a month, creating a constant state of anxiety.

The data shows that harassment spikes toward the end of the week, with Fridays and Saturdays being the most common days for these calls. Nearly half of the incidents occur between 8 p.m. and midnight, with late afternoon representing a secondary peak. The study found that the emotional toll is significant: half of the women surveyed said they feel anger, while 42% report fear, leading many to avoid answering unfamiliar numbers.
