The tragic murder of 61-year-old Rosa Delia Morales in Placetas, Villa Clara, Cuba highlights the persistence of gender-based violence in Cuba, where the gender observatory Observatorio de Género Alas Tensas (OGAT) has confirmed 27 femicides so far in 2025.
Morales was fatally stabbed by her partner, who then took his own life. Neighbors expressed shock at the crime, noting that both were older adults. It remains unclear whether the killing was preceded by other forms of gender violence. According to OGAT specialist Yanelys Núñez, femicides in Cuba affect women across all age groups, including older women, reflecting systemic discrimination and the urgent need to address this widespread problem.
