Women in El Salvador are playing a pivotal role in climate adaptation and mitigation, supported by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) through technical and financial assistance under the Agenda NDC Project. Led by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and the Salvadoran Institute for Women (ISDEMU), the initiative strengthens women’s technical capacities, promotes safe participation in climate actions, and highlights their contributions to meeting the country’s Paris Agreement commitments.
In 2024, thousands of women benefited from sustainable agriculture practices, resilience training, knowledge exchanges, and leadership development in clean energy and mobility. Seven government institutions reported significant progress in gender equality, while initiatives like Women in Action for a Resilient Country showcased women’s life stories and local expertise. UNDP emphasizes that integrating gender perspectives in climate policies not only empowers women but also strengthens community resilience and environmental sustainability.
