France: National Assembly Approves Constitutional Right to Abortion
Tuesday, January 30, 2024 10:40 AM

The French National Assembly has voted overwhelmingly, 493 to 30, to amend the nation's constitution to enshrine the right to abortion.  The proposal next goes to the Senate.  The proposal became a priority of the French Government after seeing the United States' Supreme Court rule against a constitutional right to abortion.  If the French proposal is utlmately approved, France will be the first nation in the world to enshine abortion rights in its constitution.
