The Cabinet of Grenada has approved UN Women-led support to develop legislation addressing maternity and parental leave, as well as broader care-related gaps affecting children and the elderly. Under the proposed legislation, Grenadian women would be entitled to 14 weeks of maternity leave, and parental leave would include flexible work arrangements to promote shared caregiving responsibilities. The revised legislation will also address protections and benefits for individuals that make up care economy, whether it be the mothers themselves or domestic workers. This initiative, part of the UN Women Build Back Equal project (BBE), aims to benefit Grenada’s population by tackling income poverty on a societal level, especially through these women focused interventions.
