Guatemala: Indigenous Women in Guatemala Find Healing Through Their Own Voices
Tuesday, November 4, 2025 11:40 AM

In the highlands of Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, Indigenous Achí and Kaqchikel women are reclaiming their voices and confidence through the Clubes del Bienestar (Wellbeing Clubs), an initiative by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The clubs provide safe spaces where women meet in their native languages to share experiences, build self-esteem, and strengthen emotional resilience.

More than 550 women and youth in vulnerable, migration-prone communities have participated in sessions on emotional health, self-care, and empowerment. Speaking in their own languages, Achí and Kaqchikel, has been key to fostering trust and healing.

For many participants, these gatherings mark the first time their voices are truly heard: a step towards self-recognition, community solidarity, and the right to shape their own futures.
