Hungary: Pride marches on in spite of anti-LGBTQ government ban

In the face of government ban issued by Prime Minister Orbán and possible legal consequences, the LGBTQ+ community plans to go ahead with a Pride march in Hungary’s capital on Saturday, June 28. Just three months ago, the Prime Minister passed a law against events that “depict or promote” homosexuality to minors. The law took direct aim at Budapest Pride.  It is just one part of a years-long campaign against the LGBTQ+ community, which has also included banning same-sex adoption as well as LGBTQ+ film and media content. Despite ongoing discrimination, organizers expect the event to the be largest the country has ever seen.
