The Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers (JNRWP), founded in 1999, has been instrumental in addressing the challenges faced by rural women. The issues these women generally face includes limited access to capital, land, markets, training, and good workers. In response to these challenges, the JNRWP provides support through training and resource provision to its 1,000+ women members. Farmers like Latoya Rattray-Ellis and Madge Wright-Corniffe highlight difficulties in securing loans and recovering from disasters like Hurricane Beryl, but acknowledge how the JNRWP provide critical support that helped them access grants, insurance coverage, and recovery support through agencies like the Red Cross and the United Nations Development Programme. The network also offers training in financial literacy, mental health, gender-based violence, and climate-smart agriculture, empowering women to expand their farms and strengthen their resilience.
