On November 25th, Citlalli Hernández, Mexico’s Secretary for Women, presented a plan to combat gender-based violence, the “Call of Transformative Action”, to address misogyny and combat violence against women.
Speaking during the federal government’s press conference, Hernández highlighted the scale of the problem with national data: according to the 2021 National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships (ENDIREH), 70.1% of Mexican women aged 15 and older have experienced some form of violence. Hernández framed these figures as evidence of a structural problem that requires organised action.
The presented plan aims to reduce these alarming numbers and centers itself on three priority areas for government institutions and communities: combating sexual violence, addressing digital violence, and promoting the involvement of men committed to building a fair and violence-free society.
